I'll offer a bit of experience learned in a tangential field. For a
couple of years I worked for a wholesale short run printer doing
overnight printing of documents ranging from announcements and 4-color
brochures to standard business cards.
8-point text is the "industry standard" for body text on business cards.
If you have a collection of colleague and vendor business cards, chances
are most of that have standard contact information in the lower corners
or center are 8-point Helvetica, Arial, or possibly Times. Have a look
at those and gauge the readability. Depending on how _long_ the line(s)
of text are that you need to write, 8-point may be perfectly legible or
it may be painful to look at. I wouldn't advocate paragraphs of text on
even a 5.5 x 8.5 page in 8-point font, but for a few words on the bottom
of a business card it is perfectly legible.
