I must be abnormal. Somehow, I don't know how much most of the people
I know are making. I don't think that knowledge would change how I
feel about them.

On the other hand, people you encounter while interviewing for a job
seem to believe that your pay packet is an accurate reflection of your
market value. Translation: if you're highly paid, you must be really
good at what you do. I've often found that this isn't as true as the
converse.

Negotiating for great terms is a skill that doesn't necessarily form
part of the skillset required to do a great job in profiles that do
not include sales or purchasing.
