It's true. When you select a page range in a chapter, as you were trying to do in a 140-page chapter, and then try to print the selected page range as PDF, FrameMaker prints the entire chapter. This may be a FrameMaker bug or, for some unknown reason, a "functions as designed".

Have you considered simply deleting the unwanted pages from the generated PDF file? That would solve the "red text" problem.

When you copy text into a new FrameMaker document, FrameMaker applies whatever options are set in the template associated with the document. I created a new document, enabled the change bars option, and set the color option for the change bars to red. When I copied text into that new document, red change bars surrounded the text.

However, the text itself was not red. So, as Bill suggested, there may be some condition specified in the document into which you copied the text.
