I don't care a hoot how they analyze stuff. I care about how they write

Oh, my! I have to admit I was very taken aback by that statement!
I whole-heartedly disagree. Analysis has been key in my role as a tech
writer, and now as a manager, this is the most important quality I
look for in a writer. If a tech writer cannot properly analyze
products and information, make sense out of it all, and communicate
that back to a targer audience, then it really doesn't matter how well
they design info or how well they write.
Crap is crap, whether it's lying plainly on the ground or it's neatly
wrapped in fine trimmings.
