Which makes "web" a common noun. From the quick
definition at onelook:
"[a] computer network consisting of a collection of
internet sites that offer text and graphics and sound
and animation resources through the hypertext transfer
protocol"
This definition uses "internet" as a common noun as
well:
"a computer network consisting of a worldwide network
of computer networks that use the TCP/IP network
protocols to facilitate data transmission and
exchange"
Though by the looks of this definition, it looks more
like a proper noun.
