Define Telework. Is it complete remote working (very rarely come in), or
work from home (WFH) several (but not all) days a week?
For the former, I can offer no advice.
For the latter, I suggest:
* Understand politics and attitudes. I accidentally discovered that one
of my manager's managers didn't like
WFH. My manager simply suggested that we not tell him.
* Limit WFH to 1-2 days a week. That's what we do here. I say start with
1 until everyone is comfortable.
* Do the same days. Again, that's what we do here; Tuesdays and
Thursdays are allowed.
* Get your manager's permission in advance.
* Set up a formal system for notifying people that you're WFH. Here we
put a sign on our doors, and leave
our contact info.
* Provide 24/7 contact for WFH, including cell phone, e-mail addy, and
IM.
* When you start WFH, "show up" early and "stay" late. It's a privilege,
don't abuse it! Later on, you can
do stuff during the day, but always make an effort to do 8 hours of
"work".
* Take formal steps to show what you've accomplished during a WFH day.
You can usually be more productive,
so prove it!

Subject: Telework Guidelines
Hello everyone,
I work for a comany that is considering the option of Telework for its
employees. I've done this before and have many suggestions. I would,
however, like the input of this List.
What guidelines have you followed?
What suggestions do you have?
Are there any resources/Web sites that you would recommend?
