I'm British, and I don't know of any technical writers here that would use terminology such as "amongst" with a straight face...although I have had to browbeat one person into using "while" instead of "whilst".
"Pretentious" and "twit" seem quite derogatory....does the same apply for "anglophile"? ;o)
