I'm not saying that proper grammar isn't a dandy little thing, but I'd
have probably written it that way. I lost most of my
grammar-police-ness when I studied journalism under a few professors who
stressed that in today's world, proper grammar doesn't always read
easily. I'd also guess that line was near the bottom of the article,
way past the point most people stop reading anyway. And if that
sentence was complicated by proper grammar, I'd probably stop reading
right there.
