Rich D wondered: <<Do you have a particular book, website, or
instruction manual that you think really captures excellent technical
writing? I'm returning to technical writing after a long absence and
want to get inspired.>>
I'm told the "for Dummies" series of books is excellent, but I usually
go straight to the advanced books and plow through them. O'Reilly Media
has a well-earned reputation for overall excellence, and the "Missing
Manuals" series they're co-publishing with David Pogue are all high but
variable quality. For example, the Office X manual for the Mac is good
but unexceptional, whereas Dave Pogue's "OS X Panther" missing manual
was superb--the kind of thing every manufacturer or developer should
ship with their product.
