Re: Being Laid Off - Unemployment Benefits
Washington State is a good state for collecting unemployment. All of the
paperwork can be done on-line. The maximum benefit amount (depending on
what you earned in the last year) is somewhere around $400 a month.
I hope that was a typo for $400 a week. Last time I collected was in Massachusetts, at $508 a week. I was telecommuting from Connecticut when I got laid off and had the option of collecting under either state's system. The Connecticut customer service rep advised me that I'd get more if I filed in Massachusetts instead and then went ahead and completed the paperwork for me while I was on the phone with her. (Had I needed to continue collecting after benefits ran out in Massachusetts I still could have collected in Connecticut for some further period.) I never set foot in a Labor Department office in either state and did all my filing online, with the phone only needed to register in the first place and resolve an occasional glitch.
You folks in Arizona may have warmer winters and better sunsets, but you're definitely getting the short end of the stick on UI benefits. Sheesh!
