Much to my surprise, I've gotten 3 jobs based on a Monster.com profile.
I've also had VERY good hits from Dice.com.
The suggestion to update your Resume *weekly* is crucial. Also,
create a simple web site (buy a domain name and get very reasonable
hosting at Godaddy.com (not paid to say that).)
The website simply acts as your show case, put the URL into your
resume so the Job-giving-types can go see your work.
That has worked well for me.
