Configuration is a subprocess of installation in which the software's
internal parts and functions are connected to the larger whole by human
effort in a way that allows the software to function as it was designed to
function.
That's my view of these two. Some configuration actually probably takes
place during the placing of the software on the computer, but the bulk of it
is done by a human being who makes specific choices of settings and so
forth.
