Know your audience. Tell them how your product(s) will solve their
problems. Stress benefits over features. Ensure text and illustrations
(or marketing collateral design) support each other. NEVER EVER LIE. Make
sure you end by asking them to call and don't forget to include the phone
number (and web site). You would be surprised how many fledgling
copywriters forget to provide contact informatoin. Also, look at your
competition and see what they're doing. Borrow whatever you think works,
but don't make your ads look like theirs.
Finally, don't revise your text to the point where you carve out the
excitement. Advertising is supposed to make people want to call your
sales staff, not go to sleep.
