I think your interview cancellation was a good
indicator of whose ego was really getting in the way.
Recruiters are people (allegedly) who also have their
concerns about their position and power. It's a good
thing your interview was cancelled, because you
probably would have found yourself working a
micromanager or someone on a power trip.

Many years ago, before I started as a tech writer, a
woman working at a temporary agency wanted me to take
an assembly job at a company that was one of the
agency's star clients. It was low pay and a bad
location, and I asked if she could spend at least a
few more days looking for something better. She told
me I had to take that job or nothing, and if I refused
she would blackball me with every other temporary
agency in the city. I spoke some very impolite words
and walked out. The ensuing 4 months of unemployment
may or may not have been due to her; I'll never know.
I guess I can count it as a moral victory.
