Folks,
In my company (~150 people), every manager gets a chance to weigh in on the notes for major releases - Dev, QA, Professional Services, Marketing - and they circulate them to everybody in their departments.
This is so:
- Everybody gets "the big picture" about what is in the release, if they didn't work on all aspects.
- Everybody can see their contribution to the new release in writing ("And I helped!")
- Everybody can make sure their favorite update is in there - the one they are sure is going to make the users so happy, like a tiny fix to date entry that will save time and annoyance.
Everybody's got a different perspective on the software, and I think that's a good thing.
So that makes it my job to organize it so it's attractive and scanable, and doesn't look bloated.
Works nicely for a small company with a long release cycle....
