Best option, IMHO, for a headless *nix system is to produce man or info pages.
We produce these by transforming Docbook XML to man or info.
If your *nix system has a window manager and or desktop, then checkout the
help viewer supplied with the desktop or consider using plain HTML via a
bowser. In Gnome Yelp does a fair job of presenting Docbook XML and KDE Help
Center has the same qualities. On most sysems you will find that in order to
get your help displayed in the help system, you will need to create OMF files
for registration with tools like ScrollKeeper.
