You can get a good background and comparison of the various Help authoring
tools (HATs) on Char James-Tanny's site (http://www.helpstuff.com). The
tools comparison matrix (http://www.helpstuff.com/downloads/tools.pdf) is a
good starting point. You might also visit the HATT Yahoo group at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HATT/ to learn more.

I tried to research the archives about this but was unsuccessful --
undoubtedly OE.
I have been asked to investigate online help authoring tools to use with our
applications. Heretofore we have not used online help. Does anyone have any
recommendations? My only experience is with ForeHelp and RoboHelp. Thanks
very much.
