TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I don't think so. In the off-chance that I'd say something unflattering or unkind to an individual, I don't think I'd want the default setting to be "To the whole list". It makes it available for all the world to see just by typing my name in Google. Wouldn't it be easy enough to just send it again directly to the list if you happen to hit "Reply" instead of "Reply All?" I can't see any posting being valuable enough to offset the embarrassment caused by saying something inappropriate to the whole list.

Well, as the proverb goes, "It is better to have posted something
embarrassing, than never to have posted at all". It's a risk I'm
prepared to take. Still, maybe I'm a voice in the wilderness shooting
monkeys in a barrel.
Could be a poll question on the list's page? Or it could be a long and
pointless thread which lurches from anecdote to opinion before finally
dying without conclusion.
