If I may stick up for the Engineers and Developers at my office. Most of
them are much better writers then either they, or I for that matter, like to
admit. However, unless they are documenting their own program or code, they
hate it! I think there has to be a love or at least an appreciation for
writing and the written word to do it well, which is where a tech writer
comes in. That may sound "naive" on this, not novice but certainly not an
expert, writers opinion. But I think it is the truth!
Vincent, if you love writing you will find your way into this field. Also if
you love writing, you can take the most boring document and make it
interesting, or at least useful, to you and your intended audience.
Hopefully all the arguments over your original post have not scared you
away. :)
