TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I didn't see all the drama and skullduggery you saw in the 'ranter's' post. But I sure see the emotion in the responses. Can't we keep it civil and educational, as Donald seems to be doing? Maybe this person doesn't know as much as s/he thinks s/he does. Maybe we could have suggested that the bugs be documented and submitted instead of spoken to a tech on the other end of a phone. Those of us with lots of experience know that it's better to have everything in writing but maybe newbies don't. (Yes, I know, we're writers but maybe some of us weren't always.) Maybe s/he has no idea that the company will take him or her seriously. This person was, apparently, at his/her wits' end and was reaching out to us. Let's try to remember what it was like before you knew everything. ;)
