I created some graphics in Visio. These graphics include some text (in
Arial, size 8 -- in other words, nothing funky). I saved the .vsd
drawings as .emf ("enhanced metafiles") files. I imported them into
FrameMaker and created a PDF. Everything looked perfect.
After sending the book out for review, one of my reviewers requested a
couple of minor changes in the wording of two of the graphics. I made the
changes, checked to see that everything still looked good in FrameMaker, and
was surprised to see that the spacing in the text had started looking weird.
The original Visios still look fine; the problem appears only in Frame and
in the PDF.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? The only change
that I made (that I know of) was to the wording of a few captions. The
only explanation I can think of is that I accidentally hit a keyboard
shortcut that changed some setting in Visio, something that affects the
way .emf is created or saved -- but I can't figure out what this would be.
Interesting, when I save the Visio as a .jpeg, the spacing problems do NOT
appear, but I don't want to use .jpegs because I don't think that the
quality of .jpeg images are as good as the .emfs. This might be worth
compromising on if these two graphics were the only ones in the book, but
all the other graphics in the manual are .emfs, and I think the difference
in quality is too noticeable.
Thank you in advance for any ideas!
Fiona
