ME!!! I gave up at 50. No-one would hire me. I have been called grandma,
asked how much it cost to cover the gray, and on and on. Human Resource
professionals (and I use that term with tonque in cheek) would patiently let
me know, very slowly, that the work was highly technical - despite a science
degree and a recent mechanical engineering diploma. I was asked if I could
work with younger people - as if I might suddenly feel the urge to build a
nest. I wonder if all those 20-somethings realize that they are going to be
50 in a scant 30 years. Actually, I'm 58 now, working as a contractor and
taking accounting courses at night school. I plan on doing the books for
the kiddies.

How many of you have found age to be a factor in getting work?

(Should've been a TECHWR-L survey...)

... lots of the usual promises to try "extra hard" for me because
of my "unique skillset". But no offers. (Maybe I'm too old.)..
