Hey Laura,
At this job, when I started, I was walking through a bit before being
shown where my office was at, and I saw this office with a huge desk, a
laptop with a docking station, speakers, and two large LCD monitors. I
thought, "Wow, what a nice set-up! I bet I won't have ANYTHING as nice
as that!" A few minutes later, someone showed me my new office and I had
already seen it! I have the one I thought I'd never have! MAN, working
with these two big monitors is REALLY spoiling me, too! Now I want
another monitor for my home computer, as well! ;-P

The only time I ever hit a "credibiity snag" when asking for well-
outfitted equipment it was quickly overcome with the magic words: I
need to run Adobe Creative Suite.
The only thing I would add to this conversation would be to get a
laptop rather than a desktop. Laptops are insanely useful for
bringing to meetings, taking notes, demonstrating what you're working
on at someone else's desk, etc. Ideally you'd get a laptop with a
dock and a big screen, mouse and keyboard so you can "plug in" at
your desk but still be mobile when you need to be.
At my last job everyone, top to bottom, got high end laptops with
wireless and big LCDs. And they were there and working with all the
software you needed installed the day you arrived. it was like...
heaven.
