Agree on SnagIT. It's a good program.

However, if you are going to use Photoshop for this process, it's not too
bad.

Here's an overview of the process. I won't give specifics, because I assume
you know your way around Photoshop.

1. Open your image in Photoshop.
2. Add a new, blank layer above your image. Select that layer.
3. Change the selection tool from the rectangular marquee tool to the
elliptical marquee tool.
4. Drag the selection tool around the area you DON'T want darkened.
5. Inverse the selection (Ctrl+Shift+i). You now have everything ELSE on the
layer selected.
6. Fill the layer with black using the paint bucket tool.
7. Adjust the layer opacity in the Layers pallet.

It's not that bad, but SnagIT is definitely easier to use for this
particular procedure.
