I don't think HR exists so companies can do whatever they want, but I
also think people should get rid of this idea that it exists to mediate
personal problems between employees or between employees and their
bosses.
I don't know why this notion is so embedded with people, I truly don't.
HR exists to administer benefit plans, formulate employment policies,
etc. They're not the company guidance counselors. If this guy is
grabbing your butt or insisting that you sleep with him to get your
bonus, then go to HR. But you don't mention it, so I assume he's not.
Anthony, for what it's worth, you have to look at this situation
objectively. The guy has a micromanaging style... that he isn't using
with you. He didn't tell you to change your schedule, he asked your boss
how it came about. (What's the big deal here?) He asked a question about
your time card, you offered to explain it, he said okay and forgot about
it. He didn't deny the time, right? He sounds like a boss.
I know this goes against what everyone else is saying, but what I think
you should do is wait for something that actually matters or at least
affects you directly to happen before you go all ruffly. He's not your
old boss, whom you really liked, and it's a bummer that you had to
transfer. But I wouldn't be surprised if your old boss was able to tell
him to just leave you alone and you'd get more work done.
I don't think you should talk to anybody about him - that kind of stuff
is bad enough from bosses, but from employees it gets misconstrued and
turned into a circus.
