Is it acceptable that an application requires a special touch to get
an included feature to work?
The pragmatic answer is that it makes no difference whether it is acceptable or not; it's the current reality. There may be some glorious day in the future when this is no longer the case. But in the meantime it's an opportunity for geeks like us to earn a living. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
