TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I try to know +everything+ about the product, its marketing, and its
future development, and go mad.
I understand the system better than most of the developers, because they
each focus on an individual area (and are far more knowledgeable about
that area than I can dream of!) but I need to know the whole well enough
to be able to explain it to others. My knowledge of how the system is
marketed allows me to notice strategic errors by the developers that
have passed QA, and my knowledge of how the system works allows me to
point out factual errors by marketing.
As a consequence, I've also ended up designing training courses,
creating and voicing over (voiceovering?) demos to be given to and used
by major clients, and being called from Boston by our Support Manager to
troubleshoot a new feature that was defeating him.
Walking on water costs extra.
