I don't think that's an unusual question, myself. Maybe you were joking?
Anyway, just in case you weren't, I know of only one right answer to
that question:
"Immediately."
On the other hand, if nobody asks the question before they make me an
offer, I feel justified in taking some extra time. I just agreed to a
new position with a company; I think I stunned them when I said that I
was ready to start next week. We mutually agreed that I'll start Nov. 27.
