In the context of shorthand for "World Wide Web", it's actually a Proper
Noun (name) and in that case should be capitalized.

For the same reasons that it would be inaccurate and borderline-rude to
refer to me as dory green.  I am not a boat, and although typically
Upstater-pale my skin tone is much closer to pink.
