Just a thought that has popped into my mind from time to time -- for those
seeking additional areas in which to promote the use of technical writing
services:

Signage in office buildings, airports, malls, and so forth is another area
that could use the expertise of technical writers.

I frequently notice interior signs in office buildings that are
ineffectively placed and badly written, signs that people read and find
useless. They end up doing the same thing they would do if there had been no
sign at all -- ask a passer-by, and so forth.

So it seems to me that property management companies or the companies
involved in architectural design and engineering might be companies to which
one could pitch one's services.

One might need a good number of such clients to make any significant income,
but I do think there's clientele there.
