Although not in the same vein as misunderstood slang, the subject reminds me of something I was told
by Chinese national from Beijing. He said that "southern" Chinese (I don't remember the name he used
for the region) pronounce the number six in a way that most of the rest of China considers a very
naughty word (my friend was too shy to actually tell me what the word meant). Evidently, it's a very
widely known and very funny "quirk" of the people from the region.
