I'm not absolutely sure, but I do suspect that I got my last three jobs
because I included a "freebie" with my thank you note -- usually a pointer
to a useful URL from my bag of tricks, something specific to the project
under discussion or at least for the industry.  It really was helpful and it
showed that I had been listening and thinking about _their_ needs, not just
mine.

I spend a lot of time at home on long winter evenings websurfing to expand
my Favorites and Links lists so I almost always have goodies to share.
