If you were a VP in a company and you were about to be bought out by one of
three companies, how would you proceed to attempt to secure your position in
the new company (and your position is potentially redundant with other
positions in the buyout company)?

I'd find out which executive recruitment firms the various parties have contracts with and have a serious heart-to-heart with a headhunter who is _not_ affiliated with any of those firms. Strategize about the best approach to take in your circumstance, but be open to offers from elsewhere.
