• The current tool for technical manuals is LaTeX
• Long learning curves for tools are *not* a good thing (see "LaTeX")
• LaTeX is used because it supports complicated conditionals like:
\ifthenelse(A + (\not B + \not C))(true_statement)(false_statement)
• The new tools need to support complicated conditionals
Are you *sure* that you need to get rid of LaTeX?
Anything you choose is going to have a learning curve. If you
ponder it, any tool that allows complex conditionals will require:
1. Some sort of marker at or around the conditional text
2. Some sort of way to link the markers to the conditional test
Putting the marker and the test right in the text as markup
isn't such a bad way to do it. It's not a slam dunk that
obscure symbols (that may or may not be visible in different modes)
and dialog boxes will make things any easier.
Just a thought.
