Word "collects" what you copy and its inventory can only store 12 items. You may need to clear out your clipboard. I think that every time Microsoft "improves" something it tries to add things to make intelligent users feel stupid.
Here is what Word says.
=======================
I can't copy additional items to the Office Clipboard.
You might have copied more than 12 items The Office Clipboard can hold up to 12 items. If you try to copy a thirteenth item when you're using a Microsoft Office program, a message asks if you want to discard the first item on the Office Clipboard and add the new item to the end of the clipboard. If you click OK, the next time you copy an item from any program, the Office Clipboard will automatically discard the first item and add the new item. If you click Cancel, any new items you copy won't be added to the Office Clipboard. You won't see the message again until you clear and then refill the Office Clipboard.
Note that the collected items remain on the Office Clipboard until you close all Office programs running on your computer.
You might have copied large items In this case, the Office Clipboard might hold fewer than 12 items. To begin copying items again, delete specific items from the Office Clipboard, or click Clear Clipboard on the Clipboard toolbar <javascript:HelpPopup('wdtip9.hlp','IDH_wodefToolbar');> .

Subject: copy and paste in Word 2003
Word 2003, XP
Sometimes (like under a deadline, like now... grrr) Word refuses to
copy and paste from one doc to another. The menu isn't grayed, it just
doen't work. Copy works, because I can copy text into Notepad and copy
back into the other doc.
Seems like I've seen this here before.. is it a 'known issue'?
