TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Just spotted this on copyediting-l, courtesy of Ruth Thaler-Carter,
and thought it was a good cautionary note for techwhirlers too:
"Colleagues beware: Today's (Sat., Feb. 10) Washington Post
"Business" section has an article about phony jobs ads for, among
other things, writing- and journalism-related jobs... Listings
appeared on Monster, CareerBuilder and Yahoo HotJobs. Those who
responded and submitted resumes got spammed instead of hired, and may
have had their personal identity info abused."
Ruth's wise advice: "... trying to check out any company you find out
about via online job-finding sites". Of course, the clever con
artists will still create seemingly legitimate Web sites, but doing
some research will at least weed out the rank amateurs.
