Subject:RE: term need: regarding software development From:"Jessica Weissman" <Jessica -dot- Weissman -at- hillcrestlabs -dot- com> To:<techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com> Date:Tue, 13 Feb 2007 08:39:42 -0500
The term "extensible" in the context of software usually refers to a
product that can be tailored or enhanced by users through some defined
process or feature set - there may be an API or some other set of hooks
that support customers who want to add or alter functions. So while the
word does have a plain English meaning that matches what you want, that
meaning gets trumped by this more specific meaning.
Good software design does mean building with revision and expansion in
mind; unless you're doing a rush job you'd want to design that way in
all cases. You may have to put in a whole paragraph about the flexible
architecture or some such.
