With unemployment, you can quit with cause and get benefits, but your cause
needs to be good. I had a friend that quit her job and wanted UI benefits.
She quit because she was promoted into a job that she was not qualified to
do, so she was in over her head and her employer would not let her continue
in her former position. I told her to make it clear in the UI interview
that she was not qualified for her new position. All she said in the
interview was that her employer did not give her training, so she was denied
benefits. I think that she would have got benefits if she made it clear
that she was not qualified for the position and that her old position was
not available.
UI benefits are usually available if you quit one job and then take a
temporary job that ends on its own with a lay-off after the job is finished.
UI generally only looks to your last job, but there are rules about this
that can vary by state or situation.
