Writing test Fridays

On the Indesign list, they have Haiku Fridays. To keep it focused on the 
subject at hand, of course, I thought everyone would enjoy this writing test:

First, they aren't interested in stilted technical writing but, rather, 
more persuasive writing. The second scenario is interesting. Imagine you're 
tying to describe a telephone to someone, but it's 1850.
