TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Entering rough drafts for documents with a keyboard (QWERTY or Dvorak) has
been standard practice since the days of mechanical typewriters. People
have been doing this longer than we have been alive.
Maybe it is time for a change. I have tried recording the draft material
and transcribing it myself: not too effecient. I have worked with
third-party transcribers: most don't get the technical vocabulary. Speech
recognition is looking like a good option -- I've been using Dragon.
Is anyone else doing this? I'm considering a UMPC or other smallish
platform with speech recognition. Thoughts?
Is anyone using a good chord keyboard they're happy with? The IBM one
looked beautiful and the reports of users were great, but it never "got
out of the lab".
Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
