In a work setting, silence could say a lot of things. One of the
classics from the annals of nonverbal communication is the unanswered
email, signaling "I don't have time." Another is politics, where
ignoring someone diminishes their stature or power. And of course, there
is the silence of deep denial -- if someone ignores your concerns, then
there's one less thing standing between them and doing what suits them
best. Time, political power, narcissism, ... sometimes what's not said
speaks volumes, if both parties speak the same language.


TW tie-in: A document that is silent on a relevant topic is not as
useful as one that states that the topic is not covered.
