TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I have a really simple solution: I just copy all of the project folders to a
folder on our LAN, every day at the end of the day. I also keep a copy of
just updated stuff on my hard drive in a backup folder.
Did you make a project file folder for your files, or are you using the
default RoboHelp directories?
I don't use the RoboHelp standard location [which is in the Programs
directory at Robohelp Office/RoboHTML (or RoboHELP)/<name-of-project>]. I
created a folder in the root of my C:/ (RoboProjects) where I keep all of my
work.
This method does not require backup software or anything--just use Windows
Explorer to copy the project file (all of it, then update by date) to
another location. If something bad happens, I just replace the project files
with the backup.
Note that I do NOT, however, work on the files on the network (that is very
bad--don't do it).
I hope this helps.
Good luck :-)
