I have SMEs who were formerly English teachers and switched careers to QC because they find it so difficult to clearly express themselves in writing. For new technical writers I cannot stress strongly enough how important it is to invite SMEs to just circle or underline items for detailed discussion with you later.
I have a similar cover note, but I like Stuart's better. May I borrow it?
