I think this varies with the delivery. In a printed book, which
I may or may not be reading while looking at the program on
my monitor, I want big screenshots with circles and arrows
and paragraphs of explanation about working principles (it
always mystifies me why the books for programs with GUIs
seem to use so much more text to document them than
old command line programs ever seemed to need to perform
the same tasks). But if I hit F1 within the program, the last
thing I want to see pop up in the online help is a fullscreen
capture of the same screen I'm already sufficiently confused
about to need to hit F1.
