That's why I take samples of past work to interviews. The most important copy in the portfolio box is the marked-up version of a software spec that I saved from the trash (with permission) when the project was scrapped. More than once it has clinched the deal because it shows my process and how my TW brain works, and the interviewers have liked what they saw. If somebody else isn't lucky enough to have such a sample, I'd suggest creating one.
