TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm in the "an FQDN" camp and agree that "Eff Cue Dee Enn" is the most
likely and appropriate pronunciation. But if people were arguing about
it, I'd rewrite to avoid the situation: "the FQDN," "a specific FQDN,"
etc.
That said, this proposal to explain SCSI is just way off base:
> Well, in the case of an adjective (i.e., "a SCSI drive") take
> out the adjective (i.e., "a drive" not "an drive").
So you'd say "a ugly face" or "an big elephant"? I don't think so. ;-)
