Subject:Re: Getting up to speed on UML (Was: Re: Documentation Correctness...) From:Richard Lewis <tech44writer -at- yahoo -dot- com> To:Bill Swallow <techcommdood -at- gmail -dot- com> Date:Tue, 23 Oct 2007 15:34:36 -0700 (PDT)
The questioner asked for references (or resources, I forgot) to get up- to-date on the UML. I gave him for referrence a posting by an authority. Does a referrence have to be a published book or what? How many words minimum?
The referrence I gave him is invaluable for TW's doing task analysis in consideration of the UML. Books that say things like "With Use Cases, we use little stick men to portray actors" are all over the place. What I gave him he is not going to find anywhere else.
I mentioned Data Flow Diagrams in my summary of what the referred to poster said. I often refer to Data Flow Diagrams in my responses because they have such a wide appicability to Tech Writing issues.
Bill, you infer that I am doing something not nice - Name Dropping to Impress. That inferrence is not true. Please stop making false inferrences about me.

I'm not sure what "tell it like it is" means in the context of your
reply. Your response didn't even address the question, and seemed more
there to either hear yourself talk or name-drop some folks, perhaps to
impress us. Meanwhile, John's reply was in direct response to the
question.
I'm not going to debate anything with regard to "telling it like it
is" if it's a UML vs. DFD discussion you're looking to have, because I
tire of the same old thread. But do consider tailoring your responses
to the actual questions being asked, and not using the question as an
opportunity to change the subject.
