How do you filter the messages out of the archives?  Those are online.  Ignoring a troll is easy when the world doesn't see his messages, but how do you ignore in a threaded online archive?  
 
I've only been here a year, but "Generic Troll" has posted for 8 years, except for a mysterious 4 year hiatus after 2000 when he changed names.  I can't help but wonder why somebody would spend so much time criticizing people (and their professions) who don't like him or want him around.  I think that Dipwad's comments against technical writers and his inane arguments about DFDs are disruptive and, since they are on the Internet for all to see, I think that he should be rebutted in oblivion.  But that's a waste of archive space.
 
How does one eradicate an archived troll?

Hi all,

I thought I'd pop in with a helpful suggestion that should help calm everyone down. Modern email clients have a useful feature that allows you filter email based on a number of criteria. Oddly enough, they're called filters. If you wanted to automatically file all incoming email from a certain person into the trash, you can do that. 

Technology these days.
