I have a bunch of Amish neighbors who are making extra money during
their "off" seasons by teaching some of us visionary "English" types how
to drive a single light horse to get around and work land with draft
horses. We foresee a post-peak future in which such skills will again
be valued. If they aren't needed they can be used for recreation -- but
if it turns out that they _are_ needed, they are going to be very much
in demand.

Sure, diesel tractors can be converted to biofuel. How much land will
have to be taken out of food production to grow the fuel to run the
tractors?

Solar electric tractors are an interesting alternative. What happens
when we're out of the panel manufacturing game so there are no more
replacements?

There is a definite parallel with writing. The need for clear and
accurate communications might be temporarily dormant, but it has not
gone away and recognition of its importance will inevitably take place
eventually.

If anybody here missed it, check out this week's ASQ online newsletter.
ISO 22000 (food safety) is all about documentation, and its requirements
are going to end up enforced by the entire House of Representatives
rather than just by the FDA.
