TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
We essentially need a way to tell them what portion of our documentation
was
updated at a given time.
***************
We have about 20 major SMEs/stakeholders including the shift supervisors
and upper management.
I send a monthly newsletter showing just the most recent "Revision
History" table row for each document updated since the last newsletter.
This newsletter is also posted in a special 3-ring binder at the central
paperwork desk on the plant floor.
The Revision History table on the last page of every document except
forms shows the release date of the revised document, the author of the
changes (usually me), and a _brief_ description of the changes
incorporated in this revision. The instruction document that
accompanies every form includes a revision history table that shows
specific changes done to the form.
We have experimented with using a margin bar to show areas of most
recent revision and will probably end up using that, but we're still
working on developing a basic training program to introduce our people
to the concept of document control and the fact that we've started a
document control system and they should start using it. <Grump>
As we gain momentum, the newsletter will go around more frequently and
we'll add some sophistication.
